In the first game Wednesday night we saw the young Riders face the largely veteran Lions. The Riders have some explosive players among them and they were able to move the ball effectively but the Lions defensive players are becoming sure tacklers, tough to score on. The Lions’ Mattieu Ferris opened the scoring in the opening drive with a 41 yard break away run. After some good defensive play by both teams for the remainder of the 1st quarter and the beginning of the 2nd Lions’ Nathan Fok found a seam and exploded for a 43 yard scoring run.
The Riders did very well to hold the Lions to 2 scores in the first half. Then responded in the 3rd by driving down the field with an exciting passing game then Derrick Mogridge took an outside run up the sideline to put the Riders on the scoreboard. Nathaniel Major kicked the PAT and suddenly the Riders were trailing only 16 – 8. On the ensuing drive Lions Nathan Fok worked hard and had to break tackles in a big 47 yard run to score the Lions’ 3rd TD. In the forth, Ethan Johnston scored his first TD of his football career on a 27 yard pass play and with Nathan Fok’s 4 successful kicked PATs the game ended in a 32 – 8 Lions win.
