Coaches Corner – Bulldog Unity

helmet_grassHi there!

Every now and then at this point of the season I take the time to address our parents and fans individually to remind everyone what our program is about in the midst of the ever improving play of our kids. More and more they are looking like football players and we all get excited.

In the final game of the round robin portion of the season schedule last Wednesday, we continued to see improvements among our kids in the areas of tackling and blocking. It’s this time of the season that we see fans put emphasis on winning. But it’s important to remember what this program is about. “All players in the league are all on the same team….they are ALL Bulldogs. The fall program’s primary objective is to show kids that are new to the game how much fun it is. The emphasis is on seeing all players have fun developing their football skills far more so than the game’s score.

Parents, fans, coaches and veteran players have a role to play in helping all these new kids develop. If there were no youth Bulldogs program many of these kids would get together at a field and ‘split up into teams’ and play football because it’s fun. Our program is similar but we add some good coaching, teaching some good football skills, team work values and our game days are tests to see how they learned.

Our games are more like scrimmages than games and the real objective is to see all the kids get better and have fun doing so. Believe it or not it starts with parents and fans supporting our objective with the kids. We all get excited and hope our kids and their team does well….that is completely natural. However, it is important to remember that there are no rivalries between Youth Bulldogs teams and we don’t encourage any between these kids, as they are teammates. It’s also important to remember that all these kids are very impressionable young kids 13 years old and younger.its_good_jv

The focus is on learning new skills and executing them, not on who they are playing. This program prepares our kids to be leading performers at high school and in our summer program where we compete provincially. We ask our parents, fans and coaches to help us foster this one team (Bulldogs family) approach as we head through the home stretch of the 2015 season.

Thanks and we sincerely hope you will continue to enjoy watching yours and all our kids develop into skilled football players. Wednesday October 14th we’ve matched up the Eskimos and the Riders at 6 pm and then the Ti-Cats will play the Stamps at 7:15 pm and the Argos will play the Lions at 8:30 pm in the last game under the lights of the year.

See ya on the field

Coaching Opportunities

football-goal-postsNORTH BAY BULLDOGS OFFERING COACHING OPPORTUNITIES

Each year since 2004, the North Bay Bulldogs Football Club have operated a developmental youth football league in which the focus is to show all kids how much fun football is and teach them the game’s fundamentals in a fun and safe environment.

Our program also offers coaching opportunities to people looking to get involved in football, whether it is to expand their knowledge of the game from a new perspective, or as an ex-player looking to give back to the community’s youth.

We offer a great training program for coaches and have adopted very successful coaching philosophies in which we develop a player’s love for the game and a long-term commitment to the sport. You will be learning Football Canada’s Safe Contact program as well as have opportunities to develop as a coach through Football Canada’s NCCP training program.

Coaching commitments can be worked around your schedule and our fall program runs from the end of August to end of October. So if you love football and like helping kids contact us (Marc) at 705 200-4856 and ask about our coaching opportunities.

Coach Mathon’s Corner

football-goal-postsIt was terrific to be back on the field again as we start the 2015 season. We have a great group forming and today was a great example of this group’s ability to learn. We look forward to…..warmer weather for one, but to practice #2 this Tuesday, April 28th at 6 pm.

Congratulations to coach Matt Jemmett who has been recruited and recently signed a commitment to join the St Francis Xavier University Football team. Also a very notable signing is Evan Lechlitner having spent 4 seasons with the North Bay Bulldogs also recently signed a commitment to join the York University Lions. Evan developed his love for the game with 3 years in our youth program and excelled in his 4th year with us in 2013 as an offensive lineman on our Junior Varsity Team.

Coach Jemmett will be doing alot of the drills with the players for his own training….so the players will be learning advanced football skills as everyone will be helping him prepare for his CIS football career at St Francis Xavier.

The Bulldogs is the place to develop football skills in spring and the absolute best way to do that is to play football. Everyone in grades 7 & 8 (Bantam) and Grades 9 & 10 (JV) are welcome to get a great football experience with the Bulldogs. So we still have football equipment we can hand out and there is room on our teams for more players. So let your friends know how much fun it is and bring ’em out to practice.

Football is one of those few major sports where big guys are welcome….so lets go get ’em….find your big friends and bring them out to join us….you can promise they will have fun. The season ends 2 weeks after school ends….so this spring league leaves us with lots of summer afterwards.

So have a good day at school tomorrow and Tuesday, we’ll see ya on the field!

Coach Mathon’s Corner

success_sumFolks we had a great indoor practice last night at Canadore and it was super exciting to see the quality of kids (personalities, character and talented) we have on our teams. We will be on the field in a couple of weeks so do what you need to do to prepare yourself for that…after a long and crazy cold winter of hibernation.

We saw some new faces last night and that was great. If you have any other friends that want to play some football this spring/summer, bring them out this week and let’s get every one registered so we can focus on the fun stuff when we get underway….wall to wall football learning, camaraderie with new friends as we expand our family….and of course… preparation for game 1.

Returning players from last year will be expected to lead by example and support the new players as they get familiar with our systems and procedures. We are running very similar systems as last year so those coming back will be familiar already with most of what you see being inserted.

Lets program ourselves for success and that simply means finding a way to help each other reach closer and closer to our potential. Our motto again this year will be: “DID YOU IMPROVE TODAY!” Something everyone should apply to all facets of their lives.

Have a great week, get your friends to join us so they don’t get left out of the fun and stay tuned for further announcements about indoor workouts, equipment hand outs and practice schedule for camp.
